FOREST CITY—Waldorf College wants good things for its graduates and wants graduates to do good things, Waldorf College Interim President Bob Vogel told the Class of 2005 during commencement exercises Saturday.
"You will end up exactly where God wants you and exactly where the world needs you," Vogel told the 85 graduates and a packed Hanson Field house audience.
Vogel, who will end his six-month stint at Waldorf later this month, gave the commencement address after receiving a warm introduction from Waldorf Board of Regents Chairman Roger Espe.
Espe said Vogel's charge was to help Waldorf maintain the momentum garnered by the college's transition to a four-year institution.
"Bob doesn't understand the word maintain," Espe said with a smile. "He thinks it means accelerated. ... Five months ago, he was a stranger. Now, he is a friend."
Vogel, though, quickly took the spotlight off himself when he opened his address. "Today is about the Class of 2005."
He told graduates to do what you do well, to join a church, get involved with community organizations and discover the joy of giving.
"Waldorf is a wonderful place, a place like few others where faith and learning come together," Vogel said. "God bless you and God bless Waldorf."
